across near palatial walkways

that smile of yours has traveled

athwart a dark chasm

a small voice's reply

such light brought forth

but you could not know this

for 'Your Smile's Bridge'

possess no forethought

all its own

it is governed solely by you

smiles of their own accord

just offer their support

to others out of dark places

smiles are common

but brilliant smiles

such as the one you have

are the Haley's Comet

of humanity

so rarely seen by the multitude

I was blessed earlier today

to be a receiver of such said smile

a shattered afternoon I had endured

and out of that clawing aftermath

appeared the genteel humor

from an unlikely source of force

called you

you complimented me to smile

and cajoled me to reply

you made an uneasy day seem

almost easy

as I teased you about your bedside manner

and it was only until an electronic glitch

stole you away

that my poetical preoccupation unveiled

these words

and so here I am line upon line

offering them to you

a gift for a man

who unknowingly gave me so much

thank you for allowing me to share with you

this joy of simple knowing that I before

never knew..............
