POVERTY'S INJUSTICE

Folder:
JOURNAL # 41

Professor Cornel West said it best
justice is what love looks like in public
the 536 (The Senate, The Congress and The President)
stand up for power
not to fight for the powerless
in poverty the black people in today's economy
are but the canaries in the coal mine
to no length of what's right will the 536 truly
for the little guy fight
their empty words are but lines in the sand
they are puppets controlled by the puppet masters
of Wall Street
their strings control their pocket books and their votes
true prophetic leadership like in the days of FDR is likely
yet decades in the coming
the terrorist threat from the outside is not what will buckle
the country
it is the insidious rot rising up from within
we are a nation shadowed by 'Poverty's Injustice'
and the country and its leaders' inability to see
what is really going on here
the class divide is getting wider and wider
constantly being flooded by more and more sludge
of rising inequality
it's when men put love of service to country before
pledge of allegiance to party
then the left and the right can meet in the middle
and hammer out a plan to put America back on track
to being that shining house on a hill
not a bunch of ramshackle housing projects crumbling
on the outskirts of town...................

Author's Notes/Comments:

Inspired by Tavis Smiley's forum on poverty called Poverty To Prosperity that I saw on C Span this evening. I found it very informative.
