BRIDGES SPANNING TO FAIL FROM NEGLECT

JOURNAL # 41

sun burnt bridge
flowing water below
cares not for
such beams baking
patch work pumpernickel highway
groans beneath the heavy
beating of the rush hour traffic
a few layers down
a carnage of metal and concrete
hide shivering with every tires'
weight and roll
Minnesota's tragedy
a few years back
was obviously a wake up call
that fell upon the deaf ears
of many
it would seem
I hear the future cries of terror
and disbelief
building in the cross joints and eves
of over aging bridges across America
denial and political discourse
are just substitute words for
careless stupidity....................

Author's Notes/Comments:

was crossing over an old bridge on highway 321 a few days ago and I recalled a news piece on the terrible condition of America's bridges and how some they just close as they don't have the money to repair or replace them. The figure was like 160 thousand US bridges were in in default of repair or needing to be replaced entirely. Scary number that is when you think about how much traffic every day travels over them. That bridge In Minnesota that collapsed a few years back all too quickly came to mind. I guess the government didn't answer that wake up call and now the infrastructure jobs bill is about to be argued I wonder if any of those stalwart opposers and political grand standers will take any of this dire knowledge into account when arguing their points for political point winning of if for once they will just do what is best for the country and its citizens.
