LEGACY

Folder:
JOURNAL # 41

the word
somatic
jumped out at me
from a nondescript poem
I found my mind smitten
almost encouraged
in fact
to know more
a gentle scarred
young darling
wrote in angry script
youth filled agitation
that came off as
a day filled with fits
I marvel at the diverse
poets' progeny
so scared and scarred
scratched and torn
anger and discontent
that seemed to be
teeming since
the day they were born
not all poets are
unhappy children
that grow up to be
predictably unhappy
adults
some have lovely
Norman Rockwell lives
and still are
assailed with
deep poetic thoughts
it's all in perception
environment is but
one factor
just because you feel
you were handed a raw deal
doesn't mean
you have to see every aspect
of the world
oh so negatively
for if you look beyond
the surface
you will see
there is beauty in all things
even the ugliest applied
social sting
trust me, on this very fact
I am the living proof
some might even say
it is my so called
'Legacy'.............

Author's Notes/Comments:

not all pasts bad or worse necessarily mean one has to grow up messed up. It's all in how you deal with what happened to you. We are not our pasts. Many go on to rise above dreadful, unbelievably cruel pasts and go on to be amazing wonderful people that if you knew what had happened to them as children you would appreciate them even more. I've been blessed to know many such people and it can be stunning how amazing the spirit is to go through such horrible things and still come out on the other side a damn fine human being. That was what I was trying to say in my poem..........
