OUR LADY IN THE LAMP

Folder:
JOURNAL # 41

though she wasn't much to look at
still, I must admit
as a child she absolutely
fascinated me
very simple was her stance
hands above head
waving to the wind
hips poised gently at a tilt
her eyes looking off
likely at some mysteriously
handsome man
but surely he must have stood
somewhere at the distance
beyond her world, that lamp
I think mom said
uncle Brian bought her
during the great war
I remember thinking
well it must have been
at some Polynesian port
but he fought in
The Battle of the Bulge
not in the south pacific
so she was for certain
to me
an uncrackable mystery
'Our Lady In The Lamp'
is sad though that she
got knocked off and
broke
that day my brother Bill
chased me down
in the living room
cause I took his last
bottle of Coke
she was swept up
thrown in the trash
never to be thought of
again
that is until I wrote this..................
