THE LIFE YOU WERE GIVEN

Folder:
JOURNAL # 41

my dear bird
you are
standing in your cage
never realizing
what that open doorway
is for..........

hopeful barking dog
at the side door of life
going hoarse
incessantly wanting attention
from the house where nobody is home
go lay down and patiently wait
for your care givers to return............

miserly hermit
sweep your cave's front porch
perhaps guests will come today
yet if they do
you will run inside and pretend
you are not hiding in that cave............

sincere liar
take your tales
and put them in boxes
neatly wrapped in
pristine tissue paper
and store them in a place
under your bed
where nobody would even
care enough to look
because you know
many take people at face value
and get taken advantage of
themselves
by those same clever liars
who coldly mislead them..........

polite stranger
do read my poetry
and caress mine simple heart
you will find
I am a rainbow of many shades
and colors
my spirit is never long quiet
nor mean
it has only been mistaken
to be that way
and I was never allowed
the chance to explain...............

honest sinner
smile as you put away
the wounds of your yesterday
never to dust them off
and feel them again
live in today
and don't over dream of
that fantasy future
as you have enjoyed
that very past time
far too much now
we waste so much
time on pasts we can
never alter
and futures we lose ourselves in
dreaming of
nothing more than a better today
let today always be as it is
it is after all the only constant
in our lives
so why not be bold
and enjoy it
no matter what the outcome
as it is
'The Life You Were Given'..........
