I'm pretty certain you suspect
that I am deeply worried about you
but you, being the tough guy
in all of this
will always take it all upon yourself
my insecurity wants to claim
you are shutting me out
but it's family right now
and my logical self
knows you have
more so
gone into
protective mode
making yourself
'The Spear Catcher'
in all of this
latest familial chaos
so I have to suspend
my own feelings
and just wait it out
this is what adults do
I tell myself
but I am human
and I have a sensitive heart
so you can always bet
when I just don't know
what is going on
I'm going to worry about you
cause tough guy
or no tough guy
you're not bullet proof.................

Author's Notes/Comments: 

written for a friend of mine after not hearing from them in several days. I was worried as it's so unlike this person not to stay in contact with me a couple times a week just to call and check in, see how I am doing and such so when I couldn't get in contact with them after several phone calls I got a bit worried then got a short call letting me know they were dealing with a female relative in the hospital along with umpteen other things that had gone afoul. As I was writing this poem they called again and assured me they were well and would speak to me later in the night and catch me up on everything so I was able to finish the poem with relative peace of mind.
