GATSBY, THE INTERLOPER

Folder:
JOURNAL#31

so much deprivation

amid so much vulgar abundance

the shock inside

grows whiter

than the drapes that align every window

those randy flappers relished in

the grossness and leisure

that was their time

they tittered in their tiny tea cups

as they cloaked themselves in a fragile

glass mockery

over the world

in which they, self deludingly

presided over

such vague reflections of upper society

they lavishly cast upon their own lives

existing for the next fleeting amusement

their hearts had an incredibly thick hide

and 'Gatsby, The Interloper'

arrived just in time

to play their game back in their court

a little rougher but polished

and benign

his demise, a complete let down

the shocker we knew not what

but we still waited for it

his house of cards

a busy fire

that scorched the hearts and minds

of those in his game he gathered around........

Author's Notes/Comments:

Inspired by A&E's latest version of F.Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby. starring Mira Sorvino and Paul Rudd. It was quite well done. I checked it out and was quite taken by how it drew me back into that sort of world I had read about. this poem is my take on that video.......
