YESTERDAY'S MAN (ABOUT COLIN POWELL)

Folder:
JOURNAL#30

personable wisdom cloaked in cultivated authority
the uniform
oh so symbolic of a life filled by service of
country
pressed and polished from shoe tip to shirt line
America's most honorable quality personified
in one immaculate gentleman
he stands so at ease from years of training to
appear composed
staring back in the face of our forefathers
with his own broad gaze reminiscent of that of
a long ago slave
modernly resculpted
now a most valued citizen and former serviceman
who gave his blood, grit and grace
for the great love of our glorious country
an every man's son of the pre-civil-right's era
who scaled marvelously well over all previous
stereotypes and obstacles of adversity
to become this man American's most admire
Colin Powell
he is in effect
his own man
made from his great moral conviction
honesty and grace
a rag's to riches story almost of admiration
taking full breath
standing proud
prepared
even in such great controversy
to personally do the right thing
like a good soldier
they never die they just fade away
in glory
so stepping aside the obvious embarrassment
and conflict
in his innate goodness
the patriotic soldier and son
becomes 'Yesterday's Man'
a seasoned fray above the rest............
