KOOKAMOOGIN'S DAY OFF (journal #12)

Kookamoogin

a prize Panda at the local zoo

was given a day off

in which to to do with whatever

he wished to do

so, Kookamoogin decided that he

would simply l-l-o-v-v-v-v-e to go

to the beach

to see if into the warm ocean's clear

blue waters

his big, fuzzy toes could curl and reach

but, he never planned on being the ONLY

Panda there

so he was truly quite surprised

when he arrived

and found NOT a one of his own kind

walking about on the beach ANYWHERE

and everyone STARED at him

but not like the nice people

who came to visit him at the zoo

these ones stared at him like he was

not supposed to be at the beach

what was a poor disappointed Panda to do

and a PRIZE Panda at that

thought Kookamoogin, hmmmmph.....

OH Pooh,

first, he got too hot

His coat, you see was much too thick

Why, if he had had a zipper in his fat

furry little belly

that zipper he would have unzipped

then, he became quite thirsty

as you can well imagine in such

sweltering sandy heat

yet, when he took a long glorious drink

of water from the ocean's massive bowl,

he about became SICK on his feet

just WHO poured salt in the water

this he really wanted to know

he looked around accusingly

but no one looked back at him

even the least bit guiltily

Kookamoogin was nearly as stumped as a

chopped down tree

as his miserable day off wore on and ON

he also became quite hungry

but not even ONE sandwich would any living

soul about

from their BULGING picnic baskets to him

give

It became quite obvious to Kookamoogin that

the zoo was a much BETTER place to be

for, if he had to spend every day out here

on the BEACH like this
he wondered to himself "HOW WOULD I LIVE?"

so, as the unapologetic sun slowly went down

Quietly STARVING, back to the local zoo

Kookamoogin trotted

while, no longer in his mind over going to the

beach on his day off was he besotted

"What EVER is wrong dear?" asked Kookamoogin's wife

that evening when he finally got back

"NOTHING!" he muttered but let me tell you my little

MRS, there is nothing worse in the world than a day

off in a Panda's life

and that's a FACT!"

so, Kookamoogin stayed in the zoo from that evening

on

just as content as a sweet, little lamb

and he NEVER ever took another day off nor ventured

OUT away from the zoo again!

Author's Notes/Comments:

believe it or not I wrote this on napkins while sitting in a laundromat waiting for my clothes to dry one weekend afternoon.
