Recycling Me

I've taken all the good left here

And polished it, I dare.

I've cherished parts forgotten long,

And given them much care.

These gems will be the keepers now,

As life I sculpt today.

I'm cutting out the things that hurt,

To throw them all away.

That piece of soul you scarred with words

Is gone now and I'm glad.

The heart that you, broke quite in two,

Still beats.   It is not sad.

The memories you left with me,

That caused my brow to frown,

Have all been tossed into the trash

Like last year's worn out gown.

Those lustrous plans I hid so well,

And packed upon the shelf?

I took them down and fluffed them up.

As I recycle self.

Too long I've lived in others' dreams,

While mine were tossed aside.

It's my fault. I allowed it.

Oh!  I'm taking back my Pride.

I've also snatched my self-esteem

From where you tramped it flat,

I've carried it to higher plains,

Where soon I'll get it back.

So if we pass upon the street

And you don't recognize,

The one you lived with all those years,

It's me!  There's no disguise.

I'm taking charge of life at last.

I'm changing into ME!

The dross of old resentment's gone,

I'm flying high and free.
