I have no plans laid out like stones

To mark the path I take.

I cut a swath through life with dreams,

And nurse the bones I break.

There has not been an easy way

For me here on this earth.

I've made mistakes and oft' I fell,

Known tears as well as mirth.

Many strong pleas to God I've prayed

When all around forsook.

Never once did His ear turn deaf.

Nor did He cease to look.

He lifted me from foolish mire

To place me on my feet.

He promised me my heart's desire,

Said all my needs He'd meet.

Because I'm only human dust,

I cannot understand,

Why such a Heavenly Father

Would want to hold my hand.

I asked Him "Why?" in the darkness,

As I lay down one night.

"Why, Lord, do You take care of me?

I'm such a worthless mite."

I felt His love surround me then,

Lying in fetal curl.

The warmth of his words took my breath.

"I wish for you--the world!"
