Reality Check

LOVE IS

Feeling like half of you is in another body.

Growing weak in your limbs when his name is mentioned.

Wanting his nearness and touch more than food or air.

Planning your future on shared dreams and joys.

Hearing his voice and melting inside.

REALITY IS

Feeling alone yet a hostage by law and on paper.

Growing quiet and numb when his name is mentioned.

Still wanting the love that was just a mirage.

Dreading the future and its uncertainty with fear.

Hearing his voice and crumbling inside.

Author's Notes/Comments:

I wrote this poem in 1989 during the pre-divorce stage when my world was crumbling.

Well you've done it again…lil tears welling up in the corners of my eyes. I had to read this one, because I always swear I'm going to stop and do a reality check and not get swept away again. Shame I don’t ever listen to myself huh? !
