Who You Are

I don't need permission,
Or a glass of wine,
Or a joint,
Or a cigarette,
Or a house,
Or a car,
Or nice clothes,
Or a family,
Or poetry,
Or a job,
Or food,
Or a church,
Or a religion,
Or a set of morals,
Or a preacher,
Or anything at all,
To be who I am,

And neither do you.

In fact, you can't.

So if you
Think that
You must ask
From someone
For something,
Maybe it
Would be a
Good idea
To ask yourself
If what you
Are asking
Permission for
Is really you
Before you ask.

It never hurts,

And you may
Learn about
Who you
Really are.
