Who You Are

I don't need permission,
Or a glass of wine,
Or a joint,
Or a cigarette,
Or a house,
Or a car,
Or nice clothes,
Or a family,
Or poetry,
Or a job,
Or food,
Or a church,
Or a religion,
Or a set of morals,
Or a preacher,
Or anything at all,
To be who I am,

And neither do you.

In fact, you can't.

So if you
Think that
You must ask
Permission
From someone
For something,
Maybe it
Would be a
Good idea
To ask yourself
If what you
Are asking
Permission for
Is really you
Before you ask.

It never hurts,

And you may
Learn about
Who you
Really are.

"No", she replied, "but I have experienced it. "
