Christmas at my Grandma's

I’ve always liked holidays. I’m the type of person that looks forward to any type of special occasion to celebrate. However, I’ve always liked Christmas the very best. Once, as I looked back to figure out why no other holiday was as joyful as Christmas is to me, I started wondering; was it because of the gifts? Was it because of the food? Then it hit me and it was clear; my Grandmother’s Christmas decorations. Every December we go to Mexico City to celebrate the Holidays with my father’s family. There hasn’t been one single time that we’ve unlocked the door and set foot on a carpet that is clear enough to walk on. With a long railway and a little train going around, lights, and a whole other bunch of decorations everywhere, this time of the year in my Grandmother’s house really feels like a great time to be alive. I want to make emphasis on the miniature table decorations. After going jumping around the train’s railway, we get to the living room. Everybody sits on the couch or on the chairs around the center table, and there it is. It’s the whole Christmas world in a 1.5m diameter table. With a tiny Rudolph besides a Christmas themed musical box, I could stay sitting in the couch forever, observing and taking in the magnificent wonders that the holidays contain. There’s no such feeling as knowing you are in the right place at the right time; and that’s exactly how I feel in my Grandmother’s living room at midnight, sitting on the couch besides a gigantic snowman and sipping on my Chamomile tea, when everybody’s asleep and the only sound I hear comes from the tiny ballerinas dancing on ice and the only light there is comes from the gold and green Christmas tree right in front of me.

Every now and then I remember this feeling, and it brings joy to me wherever I am. I look forward to December the whole year round, just to be with the colorful wax figures one more time.

I realize my whole family is a fan of Christmas, but nobody enjoys it the way I do. My grandmother isn’t even the one who decorates her house, due to the fact that she has people to do that for her. However, I don’t think these people realize the magnitude of the effect that their work has on a 20 year old girl who has loved Christmas ever since she first saw the candles lit on a round table over a white tablecloth.
