A Hidden Memory

Shut out here, so alone

What are you doing dad?

Why won't you let me in?

Banished out here, no light

even seeps through the bottom of the door

blocked with teatowels.

You won't let me come in.

Four years old

You would leave me alone?

You would haunt me with this memory?

I open the door, I'm sorry

I know what you mean to do

sat crying at the kitchen table

with gas filling the room.

I was four years old.

You would have left me alone.

And I'm stuck with this memory.

Incredible. Just tremendously beautiful and distinguished. Whimsical, intriguing, curious . . simply sublime.
