Sea of Souls

Folder:
In the beginning

I stare into the placid pool

Engulfing me in it's eternal shroud

Ebony tendrils wrap around me

I'm pulled into the desolate cloud

I tear at binds of utter black

Disturbing me as I fall down

Transparent souls grasp at my mind

Dragging me to where I'll drown

I feel the unseen fire burn

Scorching flesh; charring, curls back

Silent screams attack my loss

Taking away from the sanity I lack

I am the dying, deadened now

Declining embers give in to smoke

Painful claws attack life's thread

Their razor edge, and I am broke

Author's Notes/Comments:

Another poem rejected by my high school creative writing instructor who found it "off-putting." Written, 2002-2003.
