Poems 2004

Ghoulish visions from the recesses of my brain,
Careening through blue veins to knobby wrists,
Razor tracery,
Open gash,
Bloody dreams captured by a paintbrush,
Swirling life into nightmare black,
Visions portrayed upon splintered walls,
Misunderstood creations of harmonic chaos,
My soul splattered for all to see.

Sour blood in flaking paint,
Rusty nails to snag an elbow,
Bristles stiff,
Wounds long healed,
Dull razorblades litter the floor,
Sweaty sheets adorn a bed unslept in for weeks,
Dreams cling to an old pillow,
Hopes forgotten and love destroyed,
Upon a wall my soul is splattered for all to see.

Shadows hold secrets in the corners of a room,
A mirror lay shattered by a window,
Glass smeared by greasy fingerprints,
Tear-filled eyes,
Ancient bloody paint,
Paint tubes collecting dust,
Paint brushes lie forgotten among brittle paint chips,
Murals of visions fade with time,
Once, upon a wall my soul was splattered for all to see.

Once
Upon a splintered wall
My soul was splattered for all to see.
Once.
Long ago.
So very long ago.
