It cannot Be Just As It's Said

It cannot be just as it's said

All must stand in light

Remove from sand the ostrich head

And diamonds from the night.

The uttered word must have a reason

It cannot be just as it's said

For speaking thus is out of season

And just because, is dead.

Passion's colour is no longer red

It must be something true

It cannot be just as it's said

For meanings are now due.

How sad the words themselves mean naught

Unless from them be bled

Simplicity, and we are taught

It cannot be just as it's said.
