Against the Flow

God (Inspired by)

I wanted to praise and honor you,

but I drowned in my self-righteousness.

I swam against the flow,

thinking I heard your voice

inside seashells

when it was only my current.

The tides of my state of mind

crashed on the rocks of reality.

I’d created barriers to your shores,

closed off my ears from hearing you,

from reaching home.

With great verbal compression---which is always a source of enormous power, and a sign of classic talent---you present a a universal experience in a uniquely conversational way. Excellent poem!
