What is Poetry?

Is it a soul laid bare

or a heart concealed?

Does it teach and inspire

or oppose and dismay?

Is it a set of rules,

does it follow a standard

or is it free-flowing?

Is it the imitation of an action

or the rework of a memory?

Do we create these worlds

or merely describe them?

Is it a way of breathing

or a course to death?

Do we speak one to another

as only he can understand

or it is universally understood?

Is it a mirror held against nature

against human nature,

or is it an escape from our nature?
