Surviving Is Not All

Suddenly it begun, the burning fire from the sun shined for the first time in two months, the burning flames from past months consuming everything on their path. The cities had been destroyed, the buildings collapsed and brought down many homes. For some this was the apocalypse, for some others their life ended abruptly, every single human was gone, even my owners. When the light was at its peak, a silhouette appeared, not sure what it was I barked, it was so dusty and this made it blurry. I tried to get myself up but it was impossible, I needed help to do it so, I barked again. From long you could appreciate the silhouette almost as if it was a stone figurine, I kept barking for what seemed to me an eternity, all of the sudden the figure from the distance had become a big, no hmm not big, huge lion, his fur was in a perfect golden color, intact despite of the tragedies he had suffered this past months, he walked with such elegance that you could almost see sparkles behind him when he passed by. He kindly moved towards my direction with his eyes firmly looking at mine, “I’ll be saved”, I remember shouting. We introduced each other and proceeded to ask questions about how we had survived, where we had been when it all began, and what our survival plans were. The previous set of questions seemed to have replaced small talk in this post-apocalyptic environment. "Why don't you get up?” the lion asked. "I just simply can’t seem to find the strength to do so beside let's face it, what's the point? There is no one left in this world, my family died, my friends and neighbors are gone and now I am all alone.” I sobbed. "The strength you need to get up and keep going is not given to you by the people you meet, it is an intrinsic force inside you, it always has been and it will always be. You need to explore deep in your feelings and find that energy, because once you do, nothing in your life ever be the same. Although you might find yourself lonely in this world, I am suffering this condition too but now we know that we are not alone, and we can work through this now, together as friends. “He stared down at me with a god-like look. It might have been the fact that I was desperate to get up or his wise words that somehow gave me the strength to do it. It might sound a little bit awkward but, I felt renewed. We looked at each other and without saying a word we started walking in the same direction, looking for a place to start over, with the hopes that we would find other animals that were lucky enough to survive. After all the things that happened, this felt like a new beginning.
