A Hand for the Land

And after years of prediction, or warning signs, and of ignorance, the floods came. The water ravaged the world relentlessly, swallowing entire pieces of land, leaving animals and people homeless, and completely erasing any traces of past life. The only life that prevailed was that of underwater animals, who witnessed the disaster from down under, watching their land comrades lose it all.

Eventually the water went still. The destruction had been done. Slowly, day-by-day, the water animals swam farther up in order to inspect what had happened. There was no land nearby, no sign of other life, nothing. Only endless, vast ocean.

“What are we going to do? There has to be at least some survivors, this can’t be the end of the world” said a whale.

“Seems like it is,” sighed the blowfish.

“No,” reproached the whale, “It can’t be. We need to keep looking and help any survivors. We must.”

And so the kingdom of the underwater split itself to look for any land survivors in every corner and inch of the Earth. They teamed up with the kingdom of the air, getting help from birds of all sorts up in the air.

It took one week to make any progress, but finally, the first whale heard a cry for help. It came from nearby, and strangely, it was the sound of a whale. As he got closer and closer, he distinguished the oldest and wisest whale, one that had earned the respect of all the underwater animals for being a caring and helpful animal. However, something seemed off.

The whale noticed that the old whale’s back was slightly above water, and it wasn’t moving at all. It looked exhausted.

“Help me friend,” gasped the old whale. “I have all the survivors from the flood on my back, but I am old and getting tired. I need help.”

The whale swam up, and upon taking a look, he saw that the old whale was carrying all sorts of land animals, all the way from bears, to humans, to wolves. It was an incredible sight.

“I won’t be able to hold them for much longer,” gasped the old whale.

“We’ll get you the help you need.”

And so the whale set out to look for volunteers to help the whale carry the survivors. Whales, turtles and other types of fish from every type and every corner of the Earth swam to volunteer their backs as land for the survivors. Slowly but surely, more and more land started being created for the land animals, eventually becoming whole continents again.

Over the years, the whales and sea animals became the land of the Earth, so that the land animals could live their lives once again. They were forever grateful for the sacrifice of these animals, for without them, they would’ve perished. They kept the ocean and waters clean, always respecting the environment of these animals.

And this is the story of how the world came to be again, after it all seemed lost.

Lesson: Help those in need, you might need it someday.
