The Stranger

I try not to crumble,
I try not to let my weakness show.
Then her smile lights up the room,
Up in flames it goes.
More beautiful than fire,
More powerful than she knows.

Transforming everything around her,
The energy all fades away.
A girl of vivid colors
In a dreary world of grey.
In a world of darkness,
She's the small light in the fray.

Kept in the shadows
To hide the creature I feel,
Keeping my wounds hidden,
Pretending they're not real.
Even hidden she can see them,
And somehow helps them heal.

I set up my walls
To see who will tear them apart.
I've been lurking on the other side
To see who has the heart.
How did I not see this coming?
It's been her from the start.

The second stanza is definitely my favorite. "A girl of vivid colors / In a dreary world of grey" just gives me this image of a vibrant aura in the middle of a storm.
