Steel and Good-bye

Steel to your trembling lips

A barrel that never held wine

Caught in the crosshairs

Of life, death, and yourself

Every breath shakes you

A hand that once was sure

Not afraid to go through it

Terrified of living

The rope had burned your skin

The knife forgot how to cut

And the pills tried to cure you

Everything had failed you

She told you it would get better

Kissed every scar

Every new wound

But disappointment lived in her eyes.

The trigger feels warm to your finger

One last thought passes through

It might be a good-bye

Or a question, one or two

Where did you go wrong?

Why could you not return her smile?

Good-bye to all who loved me,

Good-bye to the girl that promised me forever.
