Sun Don't Shine.

Baby Boy asked me
"Why it so dark?"
I said "'Cause the sun don't shine
So us slaves can hide"

Baby Boy asked me
"Why the sky blue?"
I said "The sky, it cries
It cries for you"

Baby Boy asked me
"Why we get beat?"
I said "'Cause we don't work
Hard enough in the heat"

Baby Boy asked me
"Why we slaves?"
I said "'Cause we colored
That's enough questions for today"

Poor Baby Boy
Gettin' beat everyday
'Cause he don't know
What's right and wrong to say

Life as a slave
It ain't easy, you know
Workin' all the time
Through sun, rain, and snow

The sun don't shine for us colored folks no more.
The sun don't shine for us colored folks no more.
