Forever in a Blue Moon

I knew I had met you
somewhere before this night
underneath the dreamy
guise of a blue moon

where your heart spoke
of familiar things
even though your
lips didn't know

I remembered you

you were that quiet strength
that championed all
my fears, my injustices
and all the tears I cried,
shouldering my weight

when all I wanted to do
was close my eyes and fall
purging myself from my life

I knew you were there

you were that soft whisper
that echoed within constantly
pulsing tender and loving warmth
throughout the cold and
dark shadows of my soul

even when I was too afraid
to feel anything at all

I always felt you there

you were that gentle embrace
that held me close
during all the
lonely beats of my heart

reminding me that
I was never alone
you were always there

you were with me

and now I know
I always knew
