Falling Stars

Falling Stars

I thought I had seen your face
entwined within the soft shimmer
of my very own stars
and in that moment
I surrendered myself
to the sparkling destiny
that was sculpted so perfectly
before me

my mind etched you upon my soul
as my heart sang in silent victory

but stars
they are mysterious things
their shimmer fading
long before we ever see the
beauty of their shine

their exploding demise
ending their magic
light years before
we ever even know
of their true existence

dreams written upon the stars are destine
to be lost in the whispered hopes of dreamers
who believe beyond all reasonable sanity
in all things impossible
losing themselves in the promise of twinkle
and the illusion of what could be
betraying the reality of what is

somewhere in the turn of time
the sway of seasons
and birth and death of today
the magic that brushed your image
so beautifully upon my wishing star
betrayed my trust
and you were gone
I lost you
somewhere in between
stars that quit shimmering long ago
and dreams written on stars yet to show

by the time I quit
looking to the stars
for my destiny and realized
it didn’t matter whether or not you were
etched upon my starscape
because you were already
carved in my heart

-it was too late

for your beautiful face was
already tenderly written
in the twinkle
of somebody else’s
stars…..
