WE NEED RAIN

Our poor soil is suffering unusual drought,

the cattle are losing condition.

No rain have we seen for many a day,

brown grass affords little nutrition.

Here in the Waikato it's never been known

to ever before have a drought.

The farmers are worried, their income's at stake;

we badly need rain, without doubt.

Our gardens are shrivelled, the flowers all droop,

the air is so hot every day,

our hoses are banned so the water we save

as the soil moisture dries right away.

But down further south, where a drought is the norm,

conditions are worse than before.

If clouds do not share treasured water with us

The farmers will all end up poor.

So all of this country petitions for rain,

yes, rain is a must for this land.

If it is not forthcoming within a short time

the ground will be nothing but sand.

That heavenly moisture right now is a must,

we search every day in the blue,

we need to see clouds that will herald good rain

or some of the farmers are through!
