UNFAITHFUL STARS

UNFAITHFUL STARS

For every star in the heavens there is a sister starfish in the sea

Moving along neither not knowing day nor night as it is with

The unfaithful; but the literalist believes that the stars are there.

Every presumption is rebutable, every token of loyalty is a mint

Devalued by a story we invested in spun by some forgotten lore;

Truth is like a diamond taken out of pawn lacking original luster.

It is the job of the spinmeisters and storytellers to embellish and

Evoke the unfaithful.  The Nazi propaganda machine had to look

No further than American advertising to polish their craft of lies.

In an energy deprived world we have to look for WMD in countries

Where oil bubbles from the ground; in Africa there is no peace where

There is diamond mines; we have the unfaithful to tell us a threat is there.

Our duty as a faithful American is to eat sand; to swallow falsehood;

Our faithful duty is to be sad and resign ourselves to storytellers who

Tell us that we should be fearful of terrorism spawned by plutocrats.

The literalists say, “Look at what these terrorists are doing.”  They use

Religion as a guise to evoke terror.  The starfish looks like a star, resembles

A star but is not a star; maybe the storytellers are not exactly faithful either.
