When You're Looking in the Mirror

WHEN YOU'RE LOOKING IN THE MIRROR
When you're looking in the mirror, what do you see?
When you're looking in the mirror, what do you believe?
Do you see the girl who's now an adult?
Do you see the hurt that you believe is your fault?
When you're looking at your reflection do you like what you’ve become?
Do you recognize yourself and where you are from?
When you're looking in the mirror do you see through your own eyes?
Or, do you see the girl who feeds the world a lie?
The lie of who she really is, the lie that makes a man want you to be his.
When you're looking in the mirror and you're wearing a smile, is it happiness, or is it a cover up, from the emptiness you’ve carried around with you for a million miles?
When you're looking in the mirror and your tears start to swell, where do you turn when all your friends have failed.
They fail because they don't understand what you're going through,
they don't see what's really true.
When you're looking in the mirror do you really see who’s standing there?
You start to wonder who it is, so you study hard and stare.
Who is this girl who's looking back at me?
Who is this girl that I see?
Is she lonely and sad?
Why does it seem like she’s lost every one she’s ever loved and had?
What is her name, what is her age?
What causes this girl to live her life in pain?
What can I say to make her feel alright?
What can I say to comfort her at night?
What can I do to make her shine?
What can I possibly say when I can't turn back the hands of time?
What can I do to make her stop crying?
What can I do to make her feel like she's not dying?
When I'm looking in the mirror I start to notice something new,
I start to understand her reality too.
When I'm looking in the mirror I start to believe,
that the girl in the mirror isn't you, “IT IS ME!”
