A Seasons' Death

Falls’ breath exhales a cold plea,

urging creatures sleep once more,

for the kiss of morning sunshine

no longer melts thy frosty white coat,

nor warms away nights shiver.

~~~~~~~~~
Cold bitter winds wait impatient,
eager to strip bare the trees raiment,
in swirling jumbles of gold and red.
~~~~~~~~~

Autumns’ chilled spreading dark,

smothers a pale fading light,

as a withered summer

surrenders to certain death.

~~~~~~~~~
Now sleep mother earth,
beneath winters icy mantle.
Hide those that slither and scurry,
burrowed into thy protective womb.
Sleep long and deep,
dreaming of springs’ rebirth.
