A Last Farewell

I never thought we’d have to say good-bye,

nor thought this day would ever come to be,

but somehow fate has turned two lives awry,

and time has rendered still, love’s whispered plea.

The past still looms, hangs heavy ‘pon the soul,

and mem’ries still tug hard upon the heart,

for tearful words won’t comfort or console,

nor halt the pain when lives and lovers part.

With shards of passion scattered to the wind,

the tattered remnants ne’er could be repaired,

for lovers hearts, disparaged and chagrined,

could ne’er again be given, held nor shared.

The clock ticks down then tolls it final knell,

for time has come to part, to bid farewell,
