Teaming throngs of people, shuffling, pushing  bodies.

Senses assaulted by unfamilar sights,  sounds,  aromas

Tourists tarrying with interest at multi-colored stalls

Locals flocking to purchase daily needs.

Feet moving as the crowd carries you onward.

Fear creeping into the back of your mind

as you wade through the impossible sea  of bodies.

Halting, flowing, jostling, impersonal personal contacts.

Baskets of produce, cages of poultry, tanks of eels.

Startling visions, merchants with barrels

of live, creepy, squirming cockroaches..... delights for your bird.

Moving shadows beneath booths......scurring rats.

Around every new corner, another adventure.

So many sounds, different languages, low voices,

mumblings, occasional vehement disagreements.

Sounds jumbled together, animal and human.

Amidst the aromas of rich dark coffee,

cloying, fragrants from street food vendors.

The smells of animal feed, hay, oats, straw,

and the odd acrid stench of burning flesh.

Numerous hands fingering woven garments and silks.

Eyes lingering over baubles of silver and gold.

Trying to haggle, hoping for greater reductions.

The vendors chuckling, knowing the tourists will pay.

All in all, a feast for the senses.

The experience of a lifetime for newcomers.

Daily life for long time residents.

Just another day in the street market.

Beautiful imagery you have
elevated the mudane and the
despicable 'rats' and 'roaches'
and given them a place of
honor among the smell of
fish and the coffee and the
food vendors... 'oh I miss
the the saturday morning
trip to the market of my
younger days'
Good Stuff - keep it coming
