A Kiss

It started with a kiss 'Hello'

Progressed into a 'please don't go'

A kiss to welcome a friend back home

A kiss to say 'you're not alone'

An unintended happy kiss

became a kiss of lingering bliss

A soft warm kiss at the door

A kiss that says there must be more

Passionate kisses oh so excited

when lovers at last are reunited

Quick kisses passing in the hall

Slow kisses up against a wall

The 'waited for' kiss of a wedding day

A suggestive kiss when couples play

Kisses for pain that anticipate joy

you ask the nurse  a girl or boy

As years go by and lives are long

The worth of kisses ever strong

Kisses when happy  kisses when sad

kisses that ease the times when bad

When kisses  like seeds  a couple sows

over the years their love still grows

And even when they're old and grey

a kiss goodnight will end the day

Sometimes kisses become automated

Romantic kisses are now abated

When kisses change to merely tokens

a gap grows wider from words unspoken

Empty kisses thru a window screen

Love got lost and so did the dream

No tender kiss for eyes that cry

Walk out the door  no kiss goodbye

Then one day there comes the end

The 'until later' kiss for lover  friend

Good bye kisses  one last breath

But love goes on loving after death

Author's Notes/Comments:

A friend mentioned the line:  'empty, like kisses thru a window screen'.  It got me thinking, there's so many different kisses.

Great poem. Been married to the same lady for 29 years and still love those kisses.
