02-25 Perspective

I write these words of conviction addressed to myself,

as well as everyone else, cuz I’m just tryin to help

facilitate change. I’m divin into your couch;

pullin out quarters n dimes to put em in your account.

I’m that dude pullin a wooden beam out of his eye,

blinded by the light I blocked out by bein blind

to my sins. We all need to recognize how many lies

we tell ourselves just to salvage some pride

before we can realize any potential we’re wishin

to bring to fruition, cuz there’s a lack of nutrition.

Without daily bread, your growth is dwindlin -

livin unleaven and cold, alone n shiverin.

So go n stoke those coals til the glow is shimmerin

n get back on your feet, the gospel needs deliverin.

People need Jesus, we could get this whole nation to shine.

Brothers and sisters, no matter the pressure we can’t hide.

Cuz time is tickin and for all we know

the sand is runnin low and there ain’t much left to go,

like a marathon circumnavigating the globe

with the finish line at the bottom of a volcano.

Runners are roundin the corner dodgin lava flows

as the decent down the tunnel takes em miles below.

The tape breaks under clicks n flashes n microphones

even though right in front of them the lava explodes.

Then someone screams and they all try to reach the surface,

unprepared for elevators outta service.

California people stuck cuz they can’t surf this,

callin names cuz they don’t think that they deserve this.

While at the same time, they’re tramplin friends.

Whitey Ford is takin notes n followin trends

from walmart to wallstreet, whatever the ends,

nothin justifies killin cuz you got less cash to spend

this year, and more gadgets n toys to get.

How sickenin how easily these people forget

this world’s got enough problems without fights to the death

over the last item on the shelf that’ll be stocked again.

But, the other end of the spectrum’s a little brighter than that.

Some people still care enough to jump onto the tracks

to save complete strangers from gettin hacked

to pieces by the subway train over their backs.

Even though bystanders are afraid to speak,

they got power in numbers but they just stay meek.

But somebody in the crowd is ready to bust out

n stand up to street thugs kickin someone around.

There was this guy watchin dudes in masks with guns

stick up the girls behind the till, well he told them to run

n cut their losses while they could. That’s when he got jumped

he had his stomach sliced open, and said he’d still help anyone

who needs a stranger to cut in. Would you lay down your life

for someone you don’t even know maybe he’s holdin a knife?

All he needs is you to talk him down from the edge tonight.

Then he can prove to others like him it can all be alright.
