Gut Punch

..and That is One
of the phrases
I repeat..
And honestly,
it's one of the reasons
I still honor him,
with a pit in my gut
and disgust
with a rising burn
to my heart
that he was harmful
to me.
There is so much emotive
There is so much emotive truth and wisdom in this poem, from the title right down to the poem's last word.

That line about truth living
That line about truth living in behavior really lands hard. I feel the same mix of respect and ache when wisdom comes from someone who also caused harm. it’s indeed a gut punch to carry both at once, almost like swallowing one's own medicine.

I can still feel that gut punch re-reading this piece. It's amazing that even after years of healing those physical sensory memories are still so strong.
