Perhaps that is why I love the stars—
Because they are beautiful from a distance,
Because they don’t ask anything of me,
And because somehow, looking at them
Has always made me feel less alone.
I remember when I was five,
Small enough for her to carry me in her arms,
Her tired hands holding me close
As we stood beneath the vast, sleepless night.
There were so many tiny stars that evening,
More than my little fingers could ever count,
And I remember her looking up with me.
Then she pointed to one of the brightest
And said, almost as if it were a promise,
“One day, I will be one of them.”
I didn’t really understand what she meant back then.
I only remember the warmth of her voice,
The gentle way she held me,
The silver strands of her hair catching the little light,
And how the sky seemed so much wider
When I was being carried by her.
Years passed. The clouds came and went.
I grew older,
But somehow, I never forgot that night.
Sometimes, when the sky is clear,
I still find myself looking for that star.
I don’t know which one she meant.
Maybe it wasn’t even the brightest one.
Maybe I have chosen a different star
All these years without realizing it.
But when I see that light above me,
I think of her—
And for a moment, I am a child again,
Looking up at the same quiet sky.
Perhaps that’s what she left me—
Not an answer,
Not a place where I could find her,
But a reason to keep looking up.
And when the night feels especially heavy,
When the silence around me feels too deep,
I still look toward the stars
And whisper into the darkness—
“I’m not lonely tonight.
I can feel you.”
This one made me cry. so
This one made me cry. so perfect in every way. you are a true and rare talent
