I really do fully appreciate
this earth boy's request for a second date.

The first is always awkward, not quite right;
and small details become large in lust's sight.

First, check the position of my hair---
it needs to be atop my head . . . right there.

My head must stand straight, balanced, on my neck,
not twisted like in some space freighter wreck,

Four arms and legs---not too short nor too long;
each in its right place, not twisted or wrong.

The workers' jumpsuit seems quite casual---
too soon to try the formal-fashionable.

And on my shoeless feet, he likes sheer hose
(the kind with reinforcements at the toes).

He knocks.  As I open to him the door
I realize the flaw that I forgot,

my eyes, which checked through these details galore,
are still shelved---each one in a safety slot.
