At The Daystar's Rising, After 2 Peter 1:19 And Revelation 22:16

[for Lady Rae, with her permission and consent]

On that first Paschal morning, Jesus Christ was truly seen---
risen (as foretold)---first by faithful Mary Magdalene.
Then, in that final Star's light that outshines the daily sun,
her heart rejoiced, again, upon her chastely cherished one,

and she recalled the words once sung by ancient Solomon.

Author's Notes/Comments:

For a good fifteen centuries or more, theologians have considered that the Biblical book of the Song of Solomon is an allegory of the love between Christ and the Church.  I find this a somewhat absurd interpretation, created by emotionally desperate men, in that the Song nowhere mentions either Christ or His Church.

I suggest, herein, a new interpretation for the book, and its presence in the Christian canon of the Old Testament.  I believe that Mary Magdalene enjoyed a very special, very chaste, friendship with Jesus, and I have described in several other poems.  I believe the Song is a prophecy of what Mary felt about that relationship, a canonical way (so to speak) for her to organize her thoughts and feelings about it.

The title is taken from 2 Peter 1:19.
