Here We Are Again

He said to she as he touched her knee

And they lay still in the grass

When I look in your eyes I see all our lives

In the present and through to the past.

The love in your eyes to my soul no surprise

I have known your heart before.

Through eyes brown or blue or any other hue

I have loved you through time's swinging door.

Remember you, love, when we strolled in Paris

And watched the glistening Seine?

The love in your eyes to my soul no surprise

As I stroked the back of your hand.

You started to say, but I kissed it away

That you recognized something in me.

I just hugged you tight

On that clear virgin night

As the stars sparkled into the sea.

Love, do you remember that night in December

When the snow was ten feet tall?

The cold was so hot in that cool Harlem spot

That we lindied 'til we shook down the walls

I remember sweet sweat and how hot you would get

And, hot damn, you could lindy, girl!

Despite all the weather and my hat with the feather,

We danced like we owned all the world.

I simply recall a time in the fall

Through a thick crowd of people I glanced

My eyes touched yours, and through deafening roars

Our souls to their own music danced.

Though, louder the crowd, screamed out aloud

My eye could not get pulled away.

Even had my heart tried, 'til the day that I died

I never would have forgotten that day.

I see in my head, a hospital bed

An image that comforts me now

With barely breath left a man close to death

Is tortured as pain knots his brow

All through the night, a stranger in white

Holds tight his dying hand.

'I'll never forget', said the man's dying breath.

And I haven't, my soul mate, my friend.

Do you recollect that day in Khemet

After the Nile wept its annual flood?

I was a noble Kushite prince.

You were of Pharaoh's blood.

As I knelt before your royal grace

The future in your brown eyes flashed

I saw you and me as I touched your knee

While we lay still in the grass.

Remember that blister, my eternal sister

The one that made me cry.

The one that you kissed, in sweet autumn mist

As we watched the doves overhead fly

I don't recall, that time in the fall

The relation that you and I shared

But the love in your eyes to my soul no surprise,

So neither one of us cared.

Sure as an ocean leads to a beach,

My soul finds its place near you.

No matter whenever, wherever, forever,

Our hearts are eternally true.

I know our love has a future tense,

As well as its beautiful past.",

He said to she as he stroked her knee

As they lay lovers still in the grass.

I really loved this poem. It was truly amazing and really speaks for itself. It paints a beautiful picture of that couple living thier lives together and was really well written. It was very enjoyable to read and so amazing. Really great job.
