I was there back in the day

When smithy?s started the craft.

I?ve seen many wars in times of need

And empires disappear in a flash

I?ve been a sign of power

Of happiness and love

But also of hate and malice

A reason to kill, maim, and shove.

If you could only see

The different faces I have worn

Of diamond, ruby, emerald

Of sapphire and thorn

I remember clear the day you gave

Me to another person

Your motives pure your heart content

and you chose her, for good reason

But before that you gave me to

A friend because she asked

To hold onto me and keep me safe

?a true love found at last.?

She went away without good-byes

Then I watched her die in that truck

I felt the impact upon the crash

And I saw that we were stuck

I stayed with her until the end

Even when they said ?she?s gone?

And I watched you cry upon her grave

And after all day long

So have you guessed yet the thing that I am

I am a simple thing

The little thing upon your finger

I am your precious ring

The end
