We can be assured by the presence of offense and temptation

(although what they promise is false and phony)

still, even they can provide a testimony

that someone wants to lure us from

our duty to God and His Christ, Who are existence's Chief Exultation;

just as sin, death, and hell constitute the sum

of final human degradation.

But we who believe the Gospel have been redeemed,

and Heaven is always nearer us than we think it has seemed.
