Past the Sky

They could make home

a heavenly body

Beat their wings

So hard

They scatter night's stars

Moving silently

Straining eyes

staring into looking-glass

We call it the sky

Light bouncing from

Knowing eye

The dust of the cosmos

in fragile lungs

Without breath how far would they fly

Imagine them

Perched on the ring of another world

A marble in the distance

Their origin

Where we are sitting now

Embracing our insignificance

for the first time

Author's Notes/Comments:

My inspiration for poetry is so scattered and wild, this came from an early memory of my father. I asked him how birds wing were never tired if they lived in the sky?
