I'm Sorry

I feel her pain

Across the chasm of time,

It tears at my heart

As it proliferates to my mind.

A careless words’ attempt

To be sweet,

T’Was a bitter vetch

That failed to meet.

Her need of respect

Seriously impugned,

She cried out in pain

To a different tune.

If I could but

Turn back the clock

Those words I would eat

Her world not to rock.

But it cannot be

And time marches forward

I can only curse myself

For uttering those words.

I will hold in my heart

Her excruciating pain

A grim reminder to

Never, let it happen again.
