McGRAW WANNA BE

While watching a country music channel

I happen to see this young man.

I guess he wants to be like Tim McGraw

but I just want to take a minute and tell him.

"Son, it takes more than a large brimmed black stetson.

The facial hair was a nice touch I think.

But hon, drop that fake southern drawl".

Tim was born and raised a country boy.

Sleeves cut from shirt, lick of the lips,

boots, hats, belts and a shake of the hips.

These are not the things that make you famous.

Open up your eyes and heart, feel what you sing.

Take time to find out who you are.

Then come back to sing for us.

Renee, I know exactly what you're trying to say here; you're trying to encourage whoever this artist is to find his own voice and be himself, not copy someone that's already established. It's a good message and good advice, but unfortunately, because this is the music business you're talking about it will be very difficult for this young man to heed your message. The music industry isn't about creative expression and music anymore for the most part; it's about turning a quick buck. That's why the majority of the performers in a particular genre of music all look and sound the same until you can't tell who the originators and who the wannabes are; the corporate assassins in the music industry find something that works and they run it into the ground repeatedly so they can get their profits. It's VERY difficult to break new ground; the corporates fight those that want to be original all the way! Can ya tell I'm jaded? LOL
