Why Are You So Ugly?

"Why are you so ugly?"

this little girl once said.

And I looked her

In her eyes so red

And told her...

"You know, Melissa -

One day my creator,

After countless clone productions

Figured out that all those people ever greater -

All the doctors... All the saviors,

Needed countering.

And so he made me

Out of metal sighs

And plastic spines.

I am... Lies personified.

And when you laugh a bit too much

I know just how to make you cry

To keep your scales in balance.

While I catch your tears inside a little chalice

That I'll rest upon my window sill..."

"A garbage man of sorts -

Never respected

But expected

To collect the trash

Within our world

And keep it in me

'Til you hate me.

And I understand...

There's nothing worse

Than having someone crash and burn your hopes

And piss upon the wreckage.

Please, please though...

For a second, take my hand

And feel how cold it is -

Pale. Robbed of life.

Sold, it is

To highest bidders for a price."

"And I can sacrifice my soul!

For just a filthy vice.

And feel the heavens spit on me

When it rains tonight..."

"So there you have it.

All I know

Of what I am...

Melissa?

Where'd you go?"
