Forever Goodbye

I didn’t think it could be true,
The goodbye that I never knew.
I thought surely it couldn’t have been for you.

I thought I would be used to what goodbyes meant,
Goodbyes were never permanent.
But this goodbye would never relent.

I grew up with you by my side,
You said you wouldn’t leave.
But you lied.

You were the one who held me at night,
You had both wisdom and might.
You were my shining knight.

Here I stand on this dreary day,
The sun is rising to say good day.
We are all in our black and gray.

Some reminisce of the glory days,
Others go on their way.
While others stay and pray.

While I look into the sky,
It’s hard not to cry.
When I speak the forever goodbye.

I like the feeling in this. How heartbreaking to truly say those sad, sad words of goodbye, and realize that they really ARE gone forever from this earth. however, Nice rhyme scheme, and rhythm, it was a beautiful piece.
