On Poetry

Poetry flows

through my veins;

these words

are my lifeblood.

It begins with the pumping

of inspiration in my heart

transported by muse vessels

into my body of work.

It contains substances

that keep me functioning,

that sustain my life

and are my reason for being.

I must keep these verses

circulating from

my mind to my hands

to avoid writer’s clots.

Poetry flows

through my veins;

these words

are my lifeblood.

Rewrite 2012

Poetry flows
through my veins;
these words
are my lifeblood.

Poetry is transported
by muse vessels
into my body of work.

It is set in motion
by the pumping
of inspiration
from my mind
to my hands.

I must keep
these verses circulating
to avoid writer’s clots.

Poetry flows
through my veins;
these words
are my reason for being.
