The Birthplace and Burial of Insanity

Folder:
Society

I’m so fed up with psychiatrists
Saying no one is at fault
When someone loses their mind
As if our thoughts are the cause.

Insanity does not appear
Out of thin air.
It is the result of circumstance,
The unleashing of pent-up rage.

It’s birthed in below par parenting,
Bred in an adolescence

Of bitterness and antipathy,
The consequence- death of sanity.

Chemical imbalances are
Just the beginning of diagnosis.
Medication merely masks
The problem without solving it.

Therapy is the key,
But not while sitting in a shrink’s office;
It’s in discovering the cause yourself
Through soul-searching.

The cure is found in the pursuit
Of self awareness, forgiveness,
And letting go of your past
Far away from those padded walls.
